32 Draw Poker is a version of 5 Card Stud that uses a “French Deck”, meaning all the cards 2-6 have been removed from the deck. In this game an Ace can be used as either high or low; therefore, because there are no 2,3,4,5 or 6 cards the lowest possible straight is 10-9-8-7-A, and flushes beat full houses, and suit as opposed to rank is often used to break ties.

32 Draw Poker has many names; on the Boss Media Network it’s called 5 Card Draw A-7, in live games it’s sometimes referred to as Spanish Draw or Stripped Deck Poker. In recent years this game has grown in popularity in Italy and other European countries, and is viewed as a more fun alternative to Texas Hold’em. It’s an exciting game because a large number of hands can be played.

Again, other than modification we’ve mentioned and will soon expand upon, this game is played just like standard 5 Card Draw Poker. Players are dealt five cards, have a betting round, are given an option to discard and replace cards, and a final betting round takes place. When this final betting round is complete, players reveal their hands, and the pot is awarded to the winner.

32-Draw Poker is most commonly played in both Pot Limit and No Limit varieties.

Here are some of the games finer points:

  1. Only 32 Cards Used – all deuces, treys, fours, fives and sixes have been removed from the deck.
  2. Lowest Straight – as we already mentioned the lowest straight is 10-9-8-7-A, the second lowest is J-T-9-8-7 and the highest is A-K-Q-J-T.
  3. Flushes Beat Full Houses – with only 32 cards in the deck a full house is a much more common occurrence than a flush; therefore, the hand rankings have been adjusted to account for this.
  4. Suits Determine Rank – in 32 Draw Poker it’s most often suits (not rank) that determine the winner of a hand. An example is flush versus flush situation: the player with the flush of the better suit wins the hand. Suits in order of highest to lowest are hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades.

How Ties are Broken:

Straight Flush – If two players have a straight flush the player with the best suited straight flush wins the pot.

Four of a Kind: Rank of the quads is used to determine the winner, so suit is not a factor.

Flush: The player with the highest suited flush wins the pot. Once again suits from highest to lowest are Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, Spades.

Full House: The person whose trips are of highest rank is awarded the pot, suit is not a factor.

Straight: As in standard 52 card poker, the player with the highest rank is awarded the pot. If two players have the same straight, then suit of the highest card breaks the tie.

Two Pair: The first tie breaker is the player’s highest of two pairs; if the same, their second pair; and after that, their kicker is used. In the unlikely event that two players have exactly the same two pairs and the same kicker, the suit of the kicker breaks the tie.

One Pair: The highest pair wins; if the two pairs are identical, the kicker is used. If the kicker is also of equal value, then the suit of the kicker breaks the tie.

High Card: if no player has made a pair or better, the player possessing the highest card wins the pot. Second kicker is never used, so if multiple players’ highest card is of the same rank, the one with the best suit is awarded the pot.
