Play Americana Poker Online for Real Money

Americana is a version of 5 Card Stud Poker played online exclusively at Entraction networked poker rooms such as NoIQPoker.com. This game uses a 32 card deck, often referred to as Stripped Deck or French Deck, where all the low cards six and under have been removed. With a short deck the hand rankings differ from those of traditional poker decks, and we’ll cover that in detail later in this article.

How Americana Poker is played:

While Americana is traditionally a fixed limit game, it’s most commonly played online with pot limit betting structure. Both live and online Americana is played short handed, as no more than six players can sit at an American table. A full hand consists of five cards, the first of which is a face down card while the other four are dealt face up.

The game starts with all players posting a small ante and then each receiving two cards, one face down and the other face up. The player with the highest hand is forced to make a bring-in bet, and then action proceeds clockwise around the table with players having the option to call, raise or fold. Once the initial round is complete one at a time 3 other cards are dealt face up with a betting found after each. If on the final betting round two or more players remain in the hand, there is a showdown, and the player with the best hand is awarded the pot.

Americana Hand Rankings:

The hand rankings in Americana differ from that of traditional poker games. For example the lowest straight is 10-9-8-7-A, because an Ace can be used as either a high card or a low card. Also a flush beats a full house, and when two players have the same hand (i.e. a flush), it’s the suit that is used to determine the winner not the rank of cards.

Order of Suits
Note: In Americana Poker suits are often used as tie breakers. The order of suits from highest to lowest are hearts, diamonds, clubs, spades.

Here are the hands ranked highest to lowest

Straight Flush – Note if two players have a straight flush the one with the higher suit value is awarded the pot.

Four of a Kind

Flush – as is the case with a straight flush, if two or more players have flushes the pot is awarded to the player whose flush is of higher suit value NOT rank.

Full House

Straight: In the event that two players have a straight, the higher ranking straight is awarded the pot. Suit only comes into play when two or more players have a matching straight. In this case the suit of their highest card is used to break ties.

Two Pair: Tie breaker is the same as in traditional poker. The only time suit comes into play is in the extremely unlikely event that players have the same two pair with the same kicker. In such a case the suit of the kicker would decide the winner.

One Pair: If two players have the same pair, kicker always decides the winner. If the kicker is of the same rank, suit of the kicker is used to determine the winner.

High Card: if two players have not made a pair or better, the player possessing the highest card is awarded the pot. Kickers are never used, so if highest cards are of equal rank suit would then determine the winner.
